This awesome article from the Winnipeg Free Press highlights the work of Thilina Hettiarachchi, a PhD student in entomology at the University of Manitoba. Hettiarachchi is conducting research on bee diversity in the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve, one of the last remaining tracts of tall grass prairie in the province. His work involves using bee bowls—small, colorful containers filled with soapy water—to attract and collect bees for study. This research is part of a larger project funded by Genome Canada, aimed at understanding and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions through grassland conservation.
